 Class Times

Classes are 30-45 minutes long, running on Saturday mornings between 8:15am and 12.30pm.

Ensembles
The Wind Band, String Ensemble and Choir are free groups where students build on their music skills they've learned in classes. This is where the action happens!

Our Choir is at 9:30am, and is suitable for all levels of students.

Our String Ensemble and Wind Band are at 10:30am.  These groups are suitable for students who are continuing into their second/third+ year of learning an instrument and can read music.​

Instruments - what you need at home: 

Keyboard Students: need their own keyboard or piano on which to practice at home.  We unfortunately do not have any keyboards available for hire, but there will be keyboards available to use in classes and ensembles, so students do not need to bring their keyboards to class. We recommend at least 5 octaves (66 keys) and touch tone, where students can manually play loud or soft notes without using the volume controls.

Drum (and percussion) Students: It is not necessary for beginners to have a drum kit at home, but all students need drumsticks and a practice pad to bring to class. There will be drum kits and percussion instruments available in classes and ensembles.

Recorder Students: need a recorder to practice at home

Singing Students: need only their voice, a clear file, and a pencil!

Guitar Students: need their own acoustic guitar, most students will need a half or three-quarter size, depending on their age.
 

Flute, Saxophone, Clarinet, Trumpet, Cello, or Violin Students: need a flute, saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, cello, or violin.  We have all these instruments available for hire. Items like reeds, strings and rosin can be bought from a local music shop, and we occasionally have spares at the office.
